Retiring Abroad: Part 2

A drawing of a globe.
Yesterday I posted a link to Boomers Abroad, a site with a good deal of information about tropical coastal countries. Today I found a site called Expat Communities, which has links to and information about 110 countries with sizeable English-speaking expatriate populations. If you’re interested in the concept of retiring abroad, you may want to check it out.

Retiring Abroad

A drawing of a globe.
I found a site called Boomers Abroad this morning. It has a limited amount of retirement-specific information, but it does offer a fairly good overview of the ins and outs of moving to tropical coastal countries including Costa Rica, Cuba, Panama and Mexico. Curious about becomming an ex-pat? Check out Boomers Abroad.

The Trip That Changed a Life.

At 55, Norm Rosen, a successful publishing executive, approaching his retirement, took a trip his first trip to Africa. The plight of the great apes there touched him so deeply that he made some radical changes to his life. Now, at 73, he teaches about primate conservation at California State University-Fullerton.

What advice does he have for others who consider changing course in midlife? “There’s only once or twice in your life you develop a passion to do something in a business or a career,” Rosen says. “And when you get that passion, you should follow it—because you will excel at it.”

Inspiring story. Read the article here.

Retiring South of the Border

Mexico
I just spotted this over at CNN.com. It sounds like there’s a definite trend of US retirees moving to Mexico to spend their retirement years. This is a surprisingly informative article. It’s got informative points about living in Mexico. For example: “Medicare and most private insurance plans end at the border, but Mexican health insurance is available at a modest price, about $300 annually.” Very interesting.
